Administration
Map visibility & access configuration
Once the application is installed, it will be accessible to all users across the instance, including all projects and issues. Users will be able to view the Issue Maps buttons on the issue and project levels. However, if you wish to limit the app's appearance to specific projects or issues, you can do so by using the Project elements configuration.
To start the configuration process, navigate to Manage apps → STAGIL Issue Maps → Project elements. On the configuration page, administrators will notice that a default configuration has already been created and includes all projects and issues. This indicates the all global presence of Issue Maps buttons across the current instance.
If you wish to create a more customised configuration, start by selecting the context in the fields ‘Project category’, ‘Project’ and ‘Issue Type’, and then click ‘Add’.
Project Map configuration
Project and Jira admins can configure Issue Maps for each individual project in Project settings → Apps → Link Map. This page allows admins to adjust how maps are displayed within the project by default.
Issue view display
This is a required setting that determines how users access the map from issue view:
Right panel – displays the map preview in the issue details panel
Activity tab – shows the map inside the activity tab
Do not display – hides the map from the issue view entirely. Users can still access the full map via the [···] actions menu → Issue link map
Default preferences
These preferences define how the map looks when first opened in this project. Users can still adjust settings in their own view.
Map type:
Network – issues displayed as a graph
Hierarchy – hierarchy structure
Display issue fields:
Key, Summary, Status – issue details to show on issue cards
Default filters
Set filters that apply automatically when users open maps in this project.
Link types: show only issues connected via selected link types
Maximum link level: limit how deep the map expands (1-4)
Quick filters: reuse pre-configured quick filters for this project
Additional JQL: enter a JQL query to further refine results, even without using a quick filter
Quick filter configuration
Quick filters are pre-configured JQL queries that can be saved by Jira admins and reused across different maps. They help users quickly narrow down the displayed issues when viewing a map, without needing to type a query manually.
To start the configuration process, navigate to Manage apps → STAGIL Issue Maps → Quick filters.
To create one:
Click Add Quick Filter
Give it a name (e.g. Sales team or Daily standup)
Enter a JQL query (e.g. assignee = currentUser() AND statusCategory != Done)
Save
Once added, these filters appear in the quick filter menu within any graph view (Issue Map, Project Map, or Search Map). They can be applied instantly by end users while interacting with a map.
Admins can also apply quick filters in project settings to define default filters for project & issues maps in the scope of that project, ideal for team-specific views.
Link colours
Admins can assign specific colours to issue link types that appear on the map view.
To configure link colours go to Settings → STAGIL Issue Maps and select Link colors.
The configuration page displays a list of all available link types defined for your site. Each link is shown only once - the same colour applies to both directions (e.g. blocks and is blocked by share the same setting).
To assign colours, use the colour selector next to each link type. You can assign the same colour to multiple link types if needed.
Once configured, these colours will apply to all graph views.
📝 If your instance has integration with STAGIL Assets, Advanced Links will also appear in the list of links. If default link types are used to store advanced links, then such default links will be excluded from this list.
