Link Migration: default to Advanced

The Link Migration feature simplifies initial link administration. It can be used to upgrade existing default links and convert them into STAGIL Advanced Links with all the underlying benefits. It can also benefit links administration during data import during Server to Cloud migration.

Initial requirements

To convert the default link into a STAGIL Advanced Link the outward and inward default link must connect the same issue types as indicated in the Advanced Link Configuration.

For example, Advanced Link Contract - Account connects issue type Contract (with an outward field Related account) with issue type Account (with inward field Related contracts).

If a Jira default link e.g. Duplicate, is to be converted into this particular advanced link it must be connected in the following way:

Issue type Contract duplicates issue type Account, and
Issue type Account is duplicated by issue type Contract

Only when the criteria are met will the migration be successfully completed.

Steps

  1. To start go to Manage Apps → Advanced Links. Navigate to the three-dot menu in the top left corner. Select Migrate links.

2. Go to Issues to migrate links and enter a JQL condition to determine the scope within which default links should be migrated.

3. In the Source link name field, the drop-down menu shows the names of Jira issue links configured in a given instance. The issue links name implies both, the outward and inward links (see more on Jira default links here), e.g Duplicate stands for both, duplicates and is duplicated by.

4. Selected one of the existing Advanced Links in Target advanced link.

5. Select Migrate.

Please note that the process of changing the storage link type can be time-consuming, as it involves creating Jira links between issues in the background. Typically, this operation takes 2-4 seconds per issue.
