Due to Atlassian's deprecation of the External Assets Platform (December 31, 2024), this feature is being transitioned to use Forge custom fields. The current implementation will continue to work until December 31, 2024.

The Advanced Link field, although not a custom field, can be accessed in the Create issue dialogue. Through this field, users can browse, select, and link issues during issue creation. However, this feature is not readily accessible and requires additional configuration. Both the outward and inward fields need to be enabled separately.

To include a particular Advanced Link field in the create issue dialogue, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Display Style configuration tab and check out the option to Enable field on create screen → Save.

  2. It is also necessary to select a Searching user in the Data Logic configuration tab if it has not been done already.

During the first configuration, a one-time authorisation is required. Once the checkbox in Step 1 is checked off for the first time, the authorization dialogue is opened. The Jira user email field requires an email of a user with Jira administration permissions. Next, enter an API token associated with the Jira user email and select Enable.

After selecting the checkbox and saving the configuration, a custom field (type = External Assets Platform) will be generated with the same name as the advanced link field. This newly created custom field can be personalized through its settings and made mandatory.

Note

External Assets Platform has several limitations. The "Maximum selection" configuration does not function due to platform constraints, and available selections may not be fully accurate due to the platform's synchronization architecture.

After selecting the checkbox and saving the configuration, a Forge custom field (type = Advanced link direction) will be generated with the same name as the advanced link field. This newly created custom field will be locked to mirror advanced link field configuration, and it can be made mandatory.

When the ‘Create issue’ dialogue is launched from an asset view, then the link field in the dialogue will be pre-populated with the current asset’s key.

Please note that enabling Advanced Links for several contexts at once or global context requires a few minutes for the field to appear in the Create issue screen.
