Create new navigation menu types

How to create a new entry

To create a new top navigation entry, see the last row under the list of all of the system entries. Fill out the row with the following values:

  1. Name. Create a name for a new entry.*

  2. Show icon only. Check out the box to display the entry only as an icon:

Menu entries displayed as icon only
  1. Choose an entry type: Web Link, Sub Navigation or Confluence space list (see more details on each entry type further down this page).

  2. Select an icon to be displayed next to the entry name.

  3. Set permissions to see the item for certain user groups with Allow list or Block list.

    1. Allow List (required): only user groups selected here have permission to see the item.

    2. Block List: only user groups selected here will not have permission to see the item.

  4. The Open Item Option field allows choosing whether users want to open the selected item in a new tab or in the same tab of their browser.

A sub navigation entry is either the start point of a new menu or simply gives you one more level down in the navigation menu and helps you to bring some structure into it. At first you create the entry, that should be displayed in the top navigation bar. After that, you can add sub entries by clicking "Manage".

Within the sub navigation menu you can create navigation items of the types Weblink, Sub Navigation, Confluence Space List and Separator (Separators can only be created within a sub navigation menu).

Confluence Space List

With the Confluence Space List you can create entries, that display all spaces of a specific category, e.g. all knowledge bases, or with certain naming patterns. In the following screenshot you can see the available options to define the spaces that are shown in the drop-down menu. This option is useful, if you have a lot of spaces and you want to help your team find their needed spaces much faster.

A web link entry is a top navigation item based on a URL. Here you can link pages, that should be easily accessible for you and your team. This could be a knowledge base, documentation space, calendars, service desk or any other links that is helpful for you.
