Administration

After the STAGIL Navigation for Confluence app has been installed, an app configuration page tab is created in the system settings sidebar. Every instance administrator can access it through Settings → STAGIL Navigation → Global Navigation.

Navigation items

There are three types of navigation items:

  1. Sub-navigation: a folder tab to place and group other navigation items, including the sub-navigation entries.

  2. Web link: a link external web page.

  3. Internal link: a link to an existing Confluence page.

Items configured through this app will be visible in the sidebar or accessible via Advanced Navigation.

These items can be managed and organised according to each team’s unique requirements and needs:

  • order in which items are displayed

  • custom icons, assignable to each item

  • controlled visibility with restrictions set for user groups

  • possibility to open the link in a new tab or in the same tab of your browser

Creating a navigation item

To create a 1st level navigation item, use an Add navigation item button in the top right corner of the app configuration page. Select Manage in the item’s Actions menu to create a new item within a sub-navigation.

To change the order of items, click on the drag & drop the item in the configuration page.

Item Icons

The Add/Edit navigation item dialogue now includes functionality for assigning icons to navigation items. Users can select one of many default icons or upload custom icons directly from their device.

Custom icons can be uploaded if they are in one of the following image formats: png, jpg/jpeg, svg, ico.

Maximum allowed icon size: 48x48px.

Visibility restrictions

Each navigation item can be restricted from being viewed by certain groups via Allow and Block lists. They are configured individually for each item in the Create item dialogue or can be edited anytime through a 3-dot menu.

Sidebar visibility logic

App’s visibility logic correlates as follows with the changes that any user can make manually in the default sidebar customisation menu:

Scenario

Result

Scenario

Result

Admin sets an item as visible; user has not manually hidden it

✅ Visible

🚫 Hidden (User preference takes precedence)

Note: System menus remain unaffected by these settings and are controlled by default Confluence sidebar settings.
