Project Navigation
Overview
The Project Navigation feature is a customizable pop-up dialog that helps teams quickly access important tools and resources directly from their Jira projects.
Users can access the project navigation dialogue from the Apps menu, located in the system project navigation horizontal bar. Admins can define a custom name for navigation in the Apps menu. In the screenshot below, you can see our menu under the name ‘HR Toolbox’.
Once the user clicks on it, a dialog opens.
On the left, a list of menu folders is displayed. When the user clicks one, the right-hand panel shows a list of nested web links - each of which can direct to internal Jira pages, Confluence pages, external resources, or other systems your team uses.
How to configure
Project navigation menus can be configured in the following ways:
by a Jira admin via the global settings page
by a project admin directly in the project settings
Global configuration page
To access the page user should go to Settings → Apps → STAGIL Navigation → Project Navigation.
This page lists all project navigation configurations across the site.
To create one, click on the Add project navigation button.
This will open the dialogue where the following setting should be set:
Name: This name will be displayed in the project’s Apps menu
Projects: Define the projects where this navigation will be displayed.
Note: A single project can be associated only with one project navigation at a time.
To configure the menu folders of the Project Navigation dialogue, click on [···] → Manage → Add sub navigation.
To add a web link to the folder, click on [···] button for the specific menu → Manage → Add web link.
Project configuration page
Project admins can access the same configuration page by going to the project settings.
They can view and edit any existing project navigation, as well as create new ones.
The configuration steps for creating folders and adding web links are the same as on the global configuration page.
Project Navigation is available in both team-managed and company-managed projects.
Menu/Item configuration
When you create a sub-navigation folder in the project navigation dialog, you will need to fill out the following fields:
Icon – select an icon to help users visually identify the item
Display name – this will be the label displayed in the navigation menu
Permissions – set which user groups can see the item using one of the following options:
Allow list – only the user groups selected here will have permission to see the item
Block list – user groups selected here will not have permission to see the item
Note: If a group is included in both lists, the block list takes priority
When you add a web link entry into a sub-navigation folder, you will need to configure the same fields as above, plus:
URL – insert the web link that users will open when they click on the item
Link tab behaviour – choose whether users will open the link in a new browser tab or in the same tab
