Manage templates
Browse templates
To access a list of created issue templates, select the user profile menu → Issue Templates.
The Issue Template configuration page displays all the templates a user has created or has been granted access to. Each template has a [···] action menu with options to edit, clone and delete.
The template collection, also known as the ‘Template Selector’ dialogue, can be accessed via a (…) button adjacent to Jira’s default Create button.
To open the Template Selector, click on the [···] button OR use a ‘g+t’ keyboard shortcut.
Use available filters to find a required template quickly:
filter by Created by me
filter by Shared with me
filter by project (takes values from template context)
filter by Issue Template’s name
filter by Scheduled
filter by Starred (favourite)
Creating new template
To start a new template configuration, select Create template on the Issue Template configuration page. This action opens a dialogue to fill in template details and default values:
Name: displayed in issue view and used for template search.
Type: templates can be created as an issue or a sub-task.
Description: specify what this template is used for (displayed on the Issue template configuration page)
Viewers / Editors: specify permissions for groups, single users or any logged-in user.
These permissions will also affect the visibility of C&L buttons.
CRON schedule: add a CRON expression that will trigger an automatic issue creation based on the current template.
Once all the necessary details are filled out, select Next.
The next dialogue is used to configure default values for the templates.
To add more fields, use the ‘Configure Fields’ menu.
Select ‘Create’ to finish the configuration process and create a template.
Save existing issues as a template.
After installation, each issue has a new option in its More menu - Save as template.
Select to open the Create template dialogue and fill out the details.
Select Save.
To make the template applicable directly from the issue, go to the Issue Template configuration page and define Context.
