Create & Link button
Overview
Create & Link Button, or C&L, is a practical tool that allows users to access any template promptly and effortlessly. Create & Link feature is designed to facilitate workflow and save time thanks to the following possibilities:
easily access templates from the issue’s Action menu
define the project and issue context for any templates
copy field values from the current issue
automated linking of new issues to the current ones
Configuration
Create & Link buttons are a part of an Issue Template configuration. Each Issue Template can contain a number of Create & Link buttons, thus allowing custom template visibility in the issue view. For the C&L configuration page, select ‘Create & Link’ in the template’s Action menu:
The page displayed a list of all the C&Ls by name configured for a selected template. Other listed C&L details include:
Projects: project context in which the C&L is displayed
Types: issue types context in which the C&L is displayed
Link type: pre-configured link type
Copy fields: pre-selected fields, which values will be copied from the button’s issue context to the issue create screen.
Create a C&L button
To create a C&L button for a particular template click on the Create Button in the top left of the C&L configuration page.
In the Create new button dialogue, fill out the fields:
Name: define the name of the button users see
in the issue view.
Projects: define the project context for the button to display within.
Types: define the issue types that will host the button in the Action menu.
Link types: choose the link type that will tie both issues.
Copy fields: inherit the field values of the parent issue to your new one.
If any default values were pre-configured during the template configuration, and the field has been selected in Copy fields as well - default values will be overwritten. It is not required to select fields during Issue Template configuration for values to be copied correctly via C&L.
C&L buttons in the issue view
In issue view, users can access templates via a button in the issue navigation panel. When users click on the button, a template panel opens up, where templates with applicable contexts are displayed. Users can then select the relevant template and create a new issue with the required details filled in automatically.
It is important to note that users who do not have permissions to view templates or create issues in the target project will not see the button. This ensures that only authorized users have access to this feature, and can use it to streamline their issue creation process.
