Cascading Select List Columns

The following configuration allows you to define values in a select list column based on the selected values in a previous column.

Let's set up a couple of cascading columns with the next example. Here, we will create a table with three select list columns: Country and Region. The data in the Region column will be defined by what country you have chosen in the first column.

  1. Create your STAGIL Table custom field and define the context. Or jump to the table configuration of your existing table.

  2. Configure your first select list column. Further, this will become your Parent Select List, aka Country. Once added, add options for the select list (click column Action menu → Manage).

  3. Create a second select list column. But before adding options, check out the Cascading Select checkbox. This will enable the cascading select configuration. Then select the Parent Select List, in our case - Country. Now, when adding an option to the Region column, it will have to correlate with an option from the Country Column.

  4. Once saved, this is how it will look in the issue view

  5. You can extend your cascade further by ticking off the Cascading Select checkbox. You must choose the correct Parent Select List to carry on with the chain.

Select lists that retrieve options from external databases can be utilized in a cascading select feature, primarily as parent fields. It's important to note that child field options must be manually configured and cannot be populated from external databases.
